BROOKLYN, NY – The NBA's Brooklyn Nets have signed former North Florida basketball standout Beau Beech to a contract for the 2016-17 season. Beech becomes the first player in UNF program history to sign an NBA deal.
"I'm super excited to have this opportunity to sign a pro contract and have an invitation to training camp with the Brooklyn Nets," said Beech, who played on the Nets' summer league team in Las Vegas earlier this July. "I'm blessed and thankful to God for allowing me this chance. This is something that I have dreamed about my whole life really. For it to be coming closer and closer to happening, I'm just eager and ready to seize the moment. I want to thank my family and loved ones for believing In me in every situation on and off the court, and I also really want to thank all of UNF for their support the past four years. It was amazing and something I'll never forget."
Beech, a two-time first team All-Atlantic Sun selection during his career at UNF, averaged 8.8 points per game and shot 33.3 percent from the 3-point line during his stint with the Nets during NBA Summer League play. He capped up his impressive summer league run with a 15-point outburst, making 5 of 7 treys, in the team's final game. For his career at UNF, Beech ranked among the program's all-time leaders in nearly every statistical category including tops in three-pointers, steals, games played and games started. He also ranks second in points, field goals and rebounds.
"We are excited and thrilled for the opportunities that Beau has earned for himself," added UNF head coach Matthew Driscoll. "Opportunity is one of life's greatest gifts especially if you recognize it and are prepared to seize your moment when presented with it. Beau spent the last four years understanding and believing that if he continually did what he was capable of doing at the level of intensity necessary, than he could confidently accomplish every challenge presented to him and reach his dreams. What he has been able to achieve is exactly what we expected for his career. Beau is a true example of our belief that you reap what your sow. We have no doubt that he will open the next door in his professional career with the same attitude and focus that he demonstrated in his time here."
