JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With two preseason games under their belts, the Jaguars are well into their preparation for the regular season. Our Jaguars All Access "season" debuts tonight with quarterback Blake Bortles as our special guest.
Breaking down game tape from last Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers, Bortles told the audience that the week of practices with Tampa Bay really gave him an idea of what their defense likes and doesn't like doing. A great example of this happened during Bortles' touchdown pass to Allen Hurns in the second quarter Saturday.
"We actually ran the same play earlier in the week in practice," said Bortles. "The safety took off to run and cover Allen Robinson, leaving Hurns open. It worked out Saturday because in practice I threw it to A-Rob (Robinson) and it was incomplete. So, we took that into the game and switched it up a bit."
On the flip side of that, Bortles' first TD pass to T.J. Yeldon was an example of someone playing above the x's and o's of the game.
"Pretty funny because he ran the wrong route," Bortles laughed. "He was supposed to go the other way. You could see that Marcedes (Lewis) was already over there too, T.J. was supposed to go the other way and got mixed up kind of because we changed the protection at the line so he ended up going the other way. He's an unbelievable athlete and a smart dude and his ad-lib paid off."
In it's third year on WJXT TV-4, the official Jaguars station, Jaguars All Access airs live every Monday night from 7 to 7:30 PM. This year we are live from Mellow Mushroom Pizza in Avondale. It is free and open to everybody that wants to come and see the show.
