Bortles, Posluszny named Jaguars captains

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have named their captains for the 2016 season. Gus Bradley announced on Monday that the team has voted on quarterback Blake Bortles as the offensive captain, middle linebacker Paul Posluszny for the defense and long snapper Carson Tinker as the special teams captain.

Bradley also mentioned that nearly 25 different players received votes and how that speaks to the leadership inside their locker room. The fact that Bortles, Posluszny and Tinker were chosen doesn’t come as a surprise. All three players were logical decisions.

Other news and Notes from Gus Bradley’s press conference:

-With the addition of Arrelious Benn the Jaguars will now carry six wide receivers on the active 53-man roster. Bradley said that Benn is a standout on special teams and adds a dimension of physicality to the receiving core.

-Bradley also mentioned that he and the rest of the staff had some tough decisions to make on cut day. He said from top to bottom this is the best team they’ve had personnel wise.

-Linebacker Arthur Brown was also added to the roster on Sunday. Bradley says that he will play the Otto (linebacker) position along with Dan Skuta.

-Bradley also said that the biggest thing that Dante Fowler has to improve is his conditioning. After not playing football for a year the team expected Fowler to develop slowly in this area. Bradley said that Fowler came in on a player’s day off to work on his conditioning.
