Ponte Vedra advances to first state championship

Sharks will face American Heritage in 5A title game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Last weekend Trinity Christian, University Christian and Bolles all punched their ticket to the state championship game in Orlando. Friday night they were joined by Ponte Vedra.

In what was only the seventh time two of our local teams faced each other in a state semifinal matchup Ponte Vedra and Clay went back and forth in a high scoring affair. Sharks quarterback Nick Tronti had six touchdowns and racked up over 500 yards of total offense (313 passing, 239 rushing) as Ponte Vedra won 52-42.

Ponte Vedra (13-0) keeps their undefeated season alive and advances to their first state title game in school history. The Sharks will face American Heritage next Friday in the class 5A championship.

After playing their previous three playoff games at home the Lee Generals made the trip south to Tampa to face Plant. The Generals trailed 14-0 early on and were never able to completely recover. Lee was at midfield, trailing by eight points with a minute and half to play when quarterback Derek Jones was intercepted. Plant won 27-19. Lee finishes the season 10-2.
