Armada FC release five players

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The future of the Armada FC is in question. On Wednesday the club released five players.

The contract of goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo has expired and he will not return for the 2017 season. The club has also parted ways with Defender Matt Bahner, defender Mechack Jérôme, defender Tyler Ruthven and goalkeeper Sean Lewis.

The organization has experienced several layoffs in the weeks leading up to this decision. Overall the North American Soccer League has been hampered by financial woes. Last week the New York Cosmos, the flagship franchise of the NASL, had a mass release of their roster.

Armada FC CEO Mark Frisch released a statement last week and is continuing to work with the club's leadership team to keep the sport of professional soccer alive in Jacksonville.
