4 local teams advance to soccer state championship


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Seven local teams in boys and girls soccer were one win away from reaching the state championship on Friday, but by the end of the night, four of the seven were left standing. 

High School Girls Soccer State Semifinals:

4A: Creekside 4 Port Richey Mitchell 1

-Delaney Tauzel scored two goals for Creekside

3A: Stanton 2 Land O’Lakes 1

-The teams went into double overtime tied at 1

-Stanton wins in penalty kicks

-Stanton is the first Gateway Conference girls soccer team to reach the State final since 1998

2A: Montverde Academy 2 Bolles 1

-Leila Azari scored the only goal for the Bulldogs

1A: St. John’s Country Day 5 Evangelical Christian 0

-Five different players scored for St. John’s Country Day

-The Spartans are playing for their 6th consecutive state championship 

High School Boys Soccer State Semifinals:

4A: Fleming Island 2 Melbourne 1

-Reed Davis scored the game winning goal for Fleming Island in overtime

-The Eagles will play Doral in the state championship on Feb. 18

3A: Seabreeze 2 Ponte Vedra 1

-John Hilbert scored the lone goal for the Sharks

2A: Westshore 1 Bishop Kenny 0

-This is the second straight year that BK has lost in the state semifinals
