JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Midfielder Zach Steinberger, arguably the best player on the Armada last Fall, has signed a new contract with the club.
Steinberger, 24, was originally the 8th pick in the MLS draft by the Houston Dynamo. He was on loan from Houston during the Fall Season in 2016 and made an immediate impact, scoring a goal in his first appearance for the Armada against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
He scored four goals and tied for the club lead with four assists last season in 20 appearances.
"Signing Zach is a huge credit to the club and the people with in it,” said technical director Nathan Walter. “He is not only a great player, but his character and belief in this club demonstrate our core values.”
Steinberger rejoins the Armada, no longer on-loan, and figures to play a key role in the midfield for Jacksonville in 2017. He played both centrally and on the wing last season.
"I am so excited to be back in Jacksonville. I had an unbelievable experience here while I was on loan last year,” said Steinberger. “We ended the season last year with positive results. I can't wait to get back on the field to represent the Armada."
The Armada hold their first preseason intra-squad scrimmage Saturday at Patton Park at 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free. They will open the 2017 North American Soccer League season on April 2 against FC Edmonton at Hodges Stadium at 4 p.m.
