JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In their inaugural appearance in a FHSAA state championship game Creekside came up short losing 2-0 to St. Thomas Aquinas, in the 4A final.
The game was scoreless until the 67th minute when Chloe O’Neill broke through for St. Thomas Aquinas. With under eight minutes remaining the Knights just missed out on an opportunity to tie the game. Off a corner kick Camryn Simmons got in great position but her header bounced off the crossbar.
Minutes later the Raiders struck for the second time giving them a commanding 2-0 lead. This was just the latest in what’s been a long list of close games for the Knights. They needed overtime to get past the district final, overcame a deficit to beat Fletcher in the regional quarterfinals and used penalty kicks to advance past Niceville in the state semifinal.
