Jaguars re-sign OL Tyler Shatley
The undrafted free agent has played in 30 games in 3 seasons for the Jaguars
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed third-year OL Tyler Shatley, the club announced today.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to continue my career in Jacksonville,” said Shatley. “I want to thank Shad Khan and Dave Caldwell for believing in me and giving me a spot on the roster during my rookie season, and the commitment they have showed to this day. I look forward to continuing to learn from Coach Marrone, Coach Flaherty and Coach Sparano, and expect to help the offensive line take another step forward in 2017.”
Shatley, 6-3, 310, has appeared in 30 career games with four starts since originally signing with the club as a rookie free agent on May 12, 2014. In 2016, Shatley appeared in all 16 games for the first time in his career and added four starts (two at C, two at LG). In 2015, Shatley saw action in 13 games, primarily on special teams. As an undrafted rookie in 2014, Shatley appeared in one game, making his NFL debut on Nov. 9 vs. Dallas. Shatley was one of three undrafted rookie to make the opening day roster in 2014, joining OL Josh Wells and WR Allen Hurns.
“Tyler is an example of a player who has grown over the past three seasons due to his incredible work ethic,” said Jaguars General Manager Dave Caldwell. “He has worked tirelessly to assist the offensive line unit in any role that is asked of him. In addition to showing impressive flexibility along the line, he performed admirably when he started four games in 2016. He embodies the ‘next man up’ approach and we will continue to benefit from his selfless approach on and off the field for years to come.”
Shatley, 25, played in 51 games with 27 starts at Clemson. After beginning his collegiate career with the Tigers as a FB, Shatley converted to a defensive lineman in 2010 before eventually making the move to an offensive lineman in the spring of 2012. Shatley started 25 games on the offensive line over his final two seasons at Clemson and was named a team captain for his senior season in 2013. Shatley, a native of Icard, N.C., attended East Burke High School and rushed for 2,000 yards and 31 TDs over his junior and senior seasons at FB.
