Former Gators safety Matt Elam arrested in South Florida on drug charges

Free-agent to be booked into Miami-Dade County jail early Sunday

Baltimore Ravens safety Matt Elam was arrested early Sunday in Miami-Dade County on drug charges.

MIAMI – Former Florida Gators safety Matt Elam was arrested Sunday in South Florida on drug charges, Miami-Dade County jail records show.

Elam, 25, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 3:45 a.m.

The listed charges are possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to sell and possession of a controlled substance. He also had a warrant on a reckless driving charge.

Elam, who is set to become a free agent in March, was an All-American safety at the University of Florida, where he recorded six interceptions and five sacks during his three years with the Gators. The Palm Beach Gardens native was a first-round draft pick of the Ravens in 2013.

He was being held on a $15,500 bond.
