Day 3 of NFL Draft sees more local players chosen

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Day 3 of the 2017 NFL Draft started with a run on offensive lineman with local ties.

Offensive Tackle, David Sharpe was the first of the day. He was selected 129th overall by the Oakland Raiders. Sharpe (6-foot-6, 343 pounds) played his high school ball at Providence High School before becoming a three year starter at the University of Florida. He decided to forgo his senior season to enter the draft.

Will Holden was taken 157th overall by the Arizona Cardinals. Holden ( 6-foot-7, 311 pounds) played at Clay High school before playing at Vanderbilt where he started 37 consecutive games at offensive tackle for the Commodores.

Just three picks later, Florida State offensive lineman Rod Johnson was selected by the Cleveland Browns. Johnson was a three year starter for the Noles.

In the 5th round, Bartram Trail alum Nathan Peterman heard his name called by the Buffalo Bills with the 171st pick. Peterman started his career at Tennessee before transferring to Pittsburgh. In two seasons at Pittsburgh Peterman played in 26 games and threw 47 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

Defensive lineman, Caleb Brantley became the 6th Florida Gator to be drafted when the Cleveland Browns selected him in the 6th round.

Wide receiver, Isiah McKenzie became the first Georgia Bulldog to be taken in this years draft when he was selected by the Denver Broncos in the 5th round.
