Armada host Charleston in U.S. Open Cup

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Playing the best soccer in club history, the Jacksonville Armada host the Charleston Battery Wednesday night in a third round match in the U.S. Open Cup.

Having won three straight matches across all competitions for the first time in it's history, the Armada will play Charleston in the U.S. Open Cup for the second straight year. Last year, an extra time goal by Keita gave the Armada a 2-1 victory and sent them on to a fourth round matchup with Orlando City of MLS.

Jacksonville advanced to the third round with a 2-1 win at Miami United FC in the second round. The Armada found themselves down 1-0, but goals by Aaron Pitchkolan and Jack Blake gave the visitors a 2-1 lead at halftime and the result held.

Charleston advanced to the third round with a 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Silverbacks of the fourth-division NPSL, the same league as Miami United. In league play, Charleston has been playing well. Eleven matches in, the Battery lead the USL's Eastern Conference with a record of 7W-2D-2L and an impressive +10 goal differential. They are lead by Romario Williams, who has scored 8 goals in 10 appearances for the Battery.
