Zach Steinberger Named NASL Player of the Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Armada FC had a record-breaking weekend as it hosted North Carolina FC Sunday at Hodges Stadium. For the second-straight week and fourth time in his career, midfielder Zach Steinberger earned the NASL Player of the Week.

Jacksonville dominated offensively in the first half, finally breaking through when Steinberger scored in the 30th minute off a rebound from Jack Blake’s strike. Just two minutes later in the 32nd minute, Drew Beckie found Steinberger for the second-straight week with a beautiful cross. Steinberger’s presence in front of the net was rewarded as he scored his league-leading sixth goal of the season.

For the first time in franchise history, an Armada FC player has been honored with the Player of the Week award in back-to-back weeks. Jacksonville also moved to second place with its third consecutive win, a club record.

“Luckily I have been able to find the back of the net but that wouldn't be happening if we weren't firing on all cylinders as a team,” said Steinberger. “We are starting to find our identity and gain some momentum.”

This is Steinberger’s second season with the Armada FC. In 2016, he debuted with the club on a loan from the Houston Dynamo (MLS). His presence was immediately felt, as he scored in his debut and tallied the game-winning goal in the final game of the season. Steinberger has already surpassed his four-goal total from 2016 in just nine weeks of NASL play.
