Bolles, Nease win state baseball championships

FT. MYERS, Fla. – A pair of rain delays didn’t stop Bolles from clinching back-to-back class 5A baseball championships, after beating Bishop Moore 7-2 on Thursday.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, after Mac Forrester hit a sharp grounder into left field. A couple of batters later, Bryson Kirksey knocked home two more runs on a base hit. Bolles led Bishop Moore 5-0 after the first winning and didn’t turn back.

Weather was an issue all day long in Fort Myers. The game started two hours late due to a rain delay. Once the game got underway there would be a lightning delay followed by another rain delay.

Even Mother Nature couldn’t stop Bolles from repeating. This was title No. 8 for the Bolles program and No. 3 for head coach Mike Boswell.

Just hours after Bolles won their eighth championship, Nease pounded out 14 hits in an 11-0 whipping of King.

The Panthers scored in every inning except the fifth and Leighton Alley tossed seven innings of five hit baseball to lead the Panthers to the victory. Kyle Huber nearly hit for the cycle in the win. Huber went 4-for-5 with a single, two doubles and home run, while driving in five for Nease.

Last week, University Christian lost in the state 3A title game 4-1 to Canterbury.
