JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Sunday the Jaguars will open the 2017 season against the Houston Texans. They will do so without rookie wide receiver Dede Westbrook who was placed on injured reserve Friday due to a core muscle injury.

Westbrook was limited at practice this week due to the injury. He also missed practice time in late August because of the same issue. After being held out of the Jaguars third exhibition game against Carolina, Westbrook returned for the fourth and final preseason game at Atlanta.

Against the Falcons he caught six passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. Westbrook’s 298 receiving yards led the NFL in the preseason. Westbrook is eligible to return after the Jaguars eighth game. If healthy he could make his regular season debut on Nov. 12 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
