JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – 48,000 high school student athletes sign letters of intent to play sports in college every year.
High School 9:12 wants to help navigate the difficult road to being one of those 48,000 with a free college recruiting seminar at Wolfson High School this Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM.
Alan Verlander is the C.E.O. of Airstream Ventures which operates High School 9:12 and says that if you are a high school athlete or the parent of an athlete who has aspirations for a college scholarship, or even a coach, this free seminar is something that you do not want to miss.
"This seminar is for students from grades 9 through 12 because this is process to get into that NCAA funnel," says Verlander. "It is also for coaches. If you coach high schoo, J.V., or whatever and you have no idea about this process, eligibility centers, etc., come learn a little bit. It is a free seminar."
Only a small percentage of high school athletes sign D-1 letters of intent but Verlander is hopeful that through this seminar attendees will realize that there are several other paths you can take.
"A lot of times kids go out ther and say that I am not a D-1 great recriut, so this isn't for me. We are here to dispell that myth and let people know that there may be 341 division one schools, but there are 1,300 schools in the NCAA. So, there are a lot of opportunities to play and we want to give you a road map to do that."
