St. Johns Country Day girls soccer team stunned in state semifinals
Lakeland Victory Christian stunned the Spartans 1-0 in the Class 1A state semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale. Lakeland Victory Christian stunned the Spartans 1-0 in the Class 1A state semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale. The Spartans have a state-record 15 championships, all of them under iconic head coach Mike Pickett.
St. Johns (15-4-3) was the heavy favorite to win back-to-back state titles but didn’t do enough against the Storm. Adisienne Taylor put the Spartans on the board 14 minutes in, but that was all they managed.
Victory Christian has now won more playoff games this season (four) than it had in its entire history combined (two). The Spartans are 16-6 all-time in state semifinal games.
