Armada debuts new jersey sponsor, teases 'major announcement'

R.P. Funding now on front of shirts

INDIANAPOLIS – As the Jacksonville Armada concluded the NASL Spring Season, they debuted a new look. For the first time this year, the team has a sponsor on the front of the their shirts.

Mortgage company R.P. Funding's logo now adorns the Jacksonville kits.

R.P. Funding's corporate office is located in Maitland, Florida.

During the past two seasons, Winn-Dixie had been the sponsor on the front of the jersey, but this season, in the midst of an ownership change, the grocer did not renew its sponsorship deal. For the first 15 matches of the regular season, the Armada shirts had featured only the club's crest on the breast of the shirt and long-time sponsor Community First Credit Union on the back of the shirts.

The club also tweeted that there would be a major announcement to be made on Tuesday.

Neither the team, nor the league is commenting further. However, News4Jax has learned that the announcement will be made at the R.P Funding offices in Jacksonville and that the head of that company, Robert Palmer will be in town Tuesday. A year and a half ago, Palmer tried to purchase a Southern Professional Hockey League team to move to Lakeland, but the deal fell through.

And then there is this:

Palmer posted to his Facebook page on Friday a photo of a contract signed by him and awaiting a signature from "the seller," the North American Soccer League that took over ownership from Mark Frisch this winter. So it looks like the Armada will have new ownership with local ties.
