Episcopal Eagles celebrate senior night at football game

Students, parents fill the stands to cheer team on

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was a night to celebrate the seniors at the football game at Episcopal School of Jacksonville Friday.

From the posters, right down to the snack menu, the night was all about the seniors.

“It feels really surreal. I’ve been cheering for six years, so to finally be the one who is the oldest is really cool and really different," senior cheerleader Emily Alexander said.

Alexander is the Episcopal cheer squad's captain and said it is a big responsibility to pass the torch to the cheerleader next in line.

“I cried like three times today, it’s very sentimental, these girls are very close to my heart and the sport is close to my heart and just all the opportunities that we’ve had as a squad,” Alexander said.

It wasn't only the seniors that were getting emotional. It was the mothers of the almost-grads on the football team were trying to hold back the tears.

“I don’t want him to go, I’m not ready for them to go, but it’s their time, they are excited,” senior football mom Renee Mackanes-Cheanvechai said.

Former Jacksonville Jaguar player Tony Boselli and his wife Angi Boselli have one of their sons on the Episcopal Eagles football team.

“We just love this place, Episcopal has just been an awesome school with the boys, just a great football experience,” Angi Boselli said.

Seniors who weren't out on the field were living it up in the stands as the last few games of the year approached.

“It feels great and feels great to be represented by all the seniors on the football team," senior Griffin Stinson said.

Stinson said he'll miss the close-knit community Episcopal has given him and other student and getting to cheer on the sidelines.

“Just coming together with everyone and, you know, joined together as a school and protecting the nest,” Stinson said.
