Two local coaches receive statewide football honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Last weekend the 2017 high school football season came to a close. Four local schools made it all the way to the state title game in Orlando. On Wednesday two of those schools received statewide honors.

Raines coach Deran Wiley was named the Class 4A coach of the year. The Vikings became the first Duval County public school to win the state title in 20 years, when they beat Cocoa 13-10 on Dec. 7. Raines trailed in the fourth quarter of that game and quarterback Ivory Durham led the game winning drive. Durham was named the Class 4A player of the year.

On Friday Baker County finished as the runner up to Planation American Heritage in the Class 5A championship game. Wildcats head coach Jamie Rodgers was named the Class 5A coach of the year after leading Baker County to a 13-2 record.
