Sharks place seven on All-NAL offensive teams

Jacksonville plays Columbus for the NAL championship Saturday at 7:30

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The National Arena League and the Jacksonville Sharks announced today that five Sharks have earned spots on the NAL’s 2017 All-NAL offensive team. Fullback Derrick Ross, Offensive Linemen Cornelius Lewis and Mo Ruffins, and center AJ Harmon have all earned First-Team honors. Wide Receiver Moe Williams earned Second-Team honors.

The 33-year-old Ross (6’0”, 250) put together the best rushing season in the premier season of the National Arena League. Ross had 27 total touchdowns (1st), averaged 13.5 points per game (1st), rushed for 521 yards on 110 carries (1st) and tallied 43.4 rushing yards per game (1st). Ross topped every other rusher in the NAL by 223 rushing yards and 13 rushing TDs.  Ross led the Arena Football League in both yards (2,260) and touchdowns (142) in 2016.

The 31-year-old Lewis (6’5”, 350), 33-year-old Ruffins (6’5, 340) and 28-year-old Harmon (6’5, 330) enjoyed a spectacular season along the offensive line. These three dominant lineman provided the league’s best pass-protection allowing only 13 sacks during the regular season, tied for the second-lowest total in the league. Additionally, the Sharks offensive line helped pave the way for Ross on the ground, as the Sharks’ Fullback led the NAL with 521 rushing yards.

The 30-year-old Williams (6’2”, 195) proved to be a standout for the Sharks’ offense and in the NAL. Williams led the Sharks in receiving yards (701) and total touchdowns (14). Williams also led the NAL in yards per catch (15.1), third in kick return yards (287) and all purpose yards (994). This is Williams second season with the Sharks and his first-time earning an all-league selection.

The Sharks are set to square off against the Columbus Lions in the 2017 NAL Championship on Monday, July 10. The matchup will kick off at 7:30 p.m. EST at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena,
