Countdown to Training Camp: Jermey Parnell

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – At the very least the Jaguars will have two new starters along the offensive line when they open the 2017 season, in Houston on Sept. 10. Left tackle Kelvin Beachum and left guard Luke Joeckel are now employed by the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks respectively.

The left side isn’t the only question along the Jaguars offensive line. There are no guarantees at center or right guard either. That leaves right tackle, where barring something unforeseen Jermey Parnell will be the starter.

Position: Right tackle

2016 Stats: Although he battled injuries for much of the 2016 season, Parnell started all 16 games at right tackle. According to STATS, Parnell had six holding penalties and allowed five sacks.

2017 Projection: The fact that rookie offensive tackle Cam Robinson hasn’t even been mentioned as an option at right tackle says the Jaguars have a lot of faith in Parnell. The team would like to find their best five offensive lineman and figure out where to play them from there. Barring injury, it would be a big surprise to see somebody other than Parnell at right tackle.

From the locker room:

Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone on is there a timetable for settling on their starting offensive line:

“We have had every discussion you could possibly have, of trying to do what is best for the players, what is best for the team because somewhere along the line, you have to make some decisions where you can start getting reps for certain things. You can’t have guys taking reps all over the place. It is tough.”
