Countdown to Training Camp: Marqise Lee

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s easy to forget that Marqise Lee was selected in the 2014 NFL Draft ahead of Allen Robinson and the un-drafted Allen Hurns. Talent has never been an issue but staying healthy was something that Lee struggled with during his first two seasons.

The absence of Hurns in 2016 led to an opportunity for Lee and he took full advantage putting together the best year of his NFL career.

Position: Wide receiver

2016 Stats: 63 catches, 851 yards, 3 TD, Kick-off return TD

2017 Projection: While it’s clear that Robinson will start at one receiver position, will it be Lee or Hurns that starts opposite of him? That’s a good problem for the Jaguars to have. In Lee, Robinson and Hurns the trio represent the most talented position group on the entire team. Also, the Jaguars are in three wide receiver sets on a regular basis so Lee should see plenty of action.

If the Jaguars are able to establish the run like they say they would like to, it could lead to more down the field opportunities for Lee. Of all the receivers on the roster the former USC product is the fastest.

Key stat: 2016 was the first time in Lee’s career that he played in all 16 games.

From the locker room:

Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone on if Lee can put together another season like the one he had a year ago:

“I always believe and still believe that you go back to the foundation and sometimes you can go through the foundation quicker and get where you need to be. I think Marqise, I always say that is what he wants to do. I think he has been working hard.”
