Jaguars activate Westbrook, Pryor, place Benn on IR

Jacksonville makes several roster moves ahead of Sunday's game against Browns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The wait is over. On Saturday the Jacksonville Jaguars activated rookie WR Dede Westbrook from the team’s reserve/injured list to the 53-man active roster. Expectations have been high for the fourth-round draft pick since he led the NFL in receiving yards during the preseason.

Westbrook had been on IR since Sept. 8 after having surgery to repair a core muscle injury. At one point wide receiver may have been the deepest position on the Jaguars roster. Now in Week 11 the team is desperate for healthy bodies.

In the season opener Allen Robinson was lost for the year with a torn ACL. Allen Hurns will miss Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns game with an ankle injury. Also on Saturday the team waived third-year WR Jaelen Strong, and placed seventh-year WR Arrelious Benn (knee) on the team’s reserve/injured list. To add more depth at WR the Jaguars promoted first-year WR Larry Pinkard from the team’s practice squad to the active 53-man roster.

On Saturday the Jaguars also activated safety Calvin Pryor from the IR. Pryor, originally a first-round draft pick (18th overall) by the New York Jets in 2014, has appeared in 44 career games and has totaled 191 tackles (130 solo), 14 passes defensed and two INTs in his three seasons in the NFL.

To make room on the roster, the club waived second-year DT Sheldon Day.
