Jaguars host NFL play 60 character camp

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On the football field emotions have the tendency to run high. When that happens often times players act outside of their everyday character. On Monday the Jaguars hosted an NFL Play 60 Character Camp at Englewood High School.

Just a couple of days before training camp opens, Jaguars players Sheldon Day and A.J. Bouye explained to 300 kids how to deal with the emotions that come with playing competitive sports.

“This community supports us in so many ways,” said Day who is entering his second season with the Jaguars. “Just to give back a little bit of time to see the kids smile and have fun running around, hits my heart in a special place.”

In addition to learning how to play with character the campers were taught fundamentals of football, lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship.

“It meant a lot that the Jaguars could take time and helps us get better,” said 11-year old Nicholas Hicks who was named one of the MVPs of the camp.

Although Bouye has only been in Jacksonville for a couple of months, he’s making it a point to show fans that he’s invested in his new community.

“Coming up I wish I had the opportunity to meet players in the NFL,” said Bouye. “I know from my standpoint I would’ve listened to everything. I just hope that I was helpful with them, just inspiring them from whatever I told them.”
