Jaguars LT Branden Albert skips start of offseason program

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In the past month and a half the Jacksonville Jaguars have added 11 new players to their roster. Left tackle Branden Albert is included in that group but what absent on Monday for the start of the offseason program.

According to a report by the NFL Network, Albert is holding out for a new contract.

Albert currently has two years remaining on a five-year deal he signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2014. According to Sportrac, Albert is set to earn $8.9 million in 2017 and $9.6 in 2018. The last year of that deal is non-guaranteed.  

In March, the Jaguars acquired the 32-year-old from Miami in exchange for a 2018 seventh round pick.

All though its common practice that players show up for the offseason conditioning program, the workouts are technically voluntary. Albert is not required to be present until mandatory minicamp which is scheduled for June 13-15.
