Jaguars place WR Dede Westbrook on IR

The rookie from Oklahoma is eligible to return after week 8

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It turns out that Jaguars rookie wide receiver Dede Westbrook's core muscle injury is more serious than they thought and have placed him on the injured reserve list.

Westbrook is eligible to return to the team after week 8.

The rookie from Oklahoma played in the Jaguars final preseason game against Atlanta last week, catching 6 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown.  Westbrook led the NFL in receiving yards in the preseason.

Westbrook was listed on the injury report this week and did not practice on Friday.  Originally, he was listed as out for Sunday's game but now it looks like it will be at least eight games before he will see the field.

The Jaguars also signed third-year offensive lineman Josh Walker and claimed safety Calvin Pryor off of waivers from Cleveland.  In conjunction, the team has released offensive lineman Earl Watford.

Walker has appeared in 15 career games and had previously spent time with Houston, Green Bay and Indianapolis.  Walker was on the Texans practice squad before getting called up to the 53-man roster for the final game of 2016.

Pryor was originally a first round draft pick of the New York Jets in 2014.  He was traded to Cleveland on June 1st of this year from the Jets where he started 15 games in 2016.

The Jaguars now have 53 players on their active roster.
