Jaguars hoping to find consistency in new kicker Josh Lamb

Jaguars signed Lambo, cut Jason Myers Tues.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Through six games the Jaguars biggest issue has been consistency. That’s been reflective in their 3-3 record and was the same story for kicker Jason Myers. On Tuesday the Jaguars cut Myers and signed former Chargers kicker Josh Lambo.

“He just hasn’t been consistent,” said Jaguars coach Doug Marrone of Myers who had missed either a field goal or extra point in four of his last five games. “We’re just trying to get ourselves better. I told him to keep going and keep working. I think he’s a guy that has the ability to play in this league and we just wanted to bring someone in to see if we can get some more consistency at that position.”

Lambo worked out for the Jaguars in August and hit 52 of 64 field goal attempts in two season with the Chargers. After being cut during the preseason the former Texas A&M product worked out three days a week at a high school in Irvine, California. He knew that eventually the phone would ring for his next opportunity.

“The NFL is a funny place to be and a funny job to have,” said Lamb. “All you can do is be as consistent as you can and keep on moving forward.”

Over the past two seasons Lambo’s field goal percentage (81.2%) is actually lower than Myers (82.8 %). Lambo has also made 70 of 78 extra points over that same time period.

Playing football is still relatively new for Lamb. He has experience as a goalkeeper in both the English Premier League and the MLS.

“I’m not going to say that I’m the second coming of kickers but I had a good first two years,” said Lamb. “Realistically I’ve been kicking a football for five years total. This will be my third year in the NFL. So I still have a long way to go and I have a lot of upside. I believe in myself.”
