JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Thursday former kicker Josh Scobee signed a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Scobee is the franchise’s all-time leading scorer with 1,022 career points.
“I never wanted to play football, I got into football by accident,” said Scobee. “I was about 17 and was out kicking a ball with some friends. A coach came over to me and asked me to play. Five weeks later I had a scholarship offer from Louisiana Tech. I kind of got into this by accident, to be able to play in the NFL for 12 years by accident is pretty awesome."
Scobee was drafted by Jacksonville in the fifth round of the 2004 NFL Draft and his 168 games are the third-most in franchise history.
“I’m very much more than blessed to have been drafted by the Jaguars,” said Scobee. “The sense of community around here is way more than I could’ve ever asked for.”
