Providence wins state championship

Stallions capture 2nd state title

LAKELAND, Fla. - Grayson Allen scored 31 points to lead Providence to a 62-56 victory over Coral Springs Christian in the boys Class 3A state basketball championship game.

Allen, considered one of the nation's top 10 shooting guard prospects, came alive in the second period by scoring 10 points and keying an 11-2 run to give Providence a 29-24 halftime lead.

Allen said afterward, "This is one of the greatest teams I've ever been on, the chemistry was great, we all loved each other. We're state champs and it's great.

Providence (31-1) continued to roll in the third period behind Allen, who scored 12 of the Stallions' 16 points in the stanza to extend their lead to 45-32.

Coral Springs Christian (29-4) trailed by 14 in the fourth period but wouldn't go away quietly after a 3-pointer by Brandon Spencer trimmed the deficit to 59-53. Allen hit 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch to make sure the Crusaders would get no closer.

Spencer led Coral Springs Christian with 15 points while Nura Zanna added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
