LAKELAND, Fla. - Sierra Shepherd scored 17 points to lead Jacksonville Ribault to a 65-47 victory over Coral Springs in the girls Class 4A state basketball championship Thursday -- the ninth state title for the Lady Trojans.
Ribault (30-0) held the lead for all but the first 2 minutes of the contest and took a 27-23 advantage into halftime. Coral Springs (24-7) pulled as close as 27-26 early in the third period but Ribault finished the stanza on a 14-2 run to take a commanding 41-28 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Coral Springs trimmed the deficit to 52-45 on a basket from Chelsie Hall with 4 minutes remaining. But Ribault countered with a 10-0 run to extended its lead to 17 points with less than 2 minutes left.
Sherranda Reddick scored 10 points and 13 rebounds for Ribault while JaTavia Tapley added 12 points. Emily Williams led Coral Springs with 14 points but the Colts shot just 30.2 percent (13-of-43).

"These girls understand that it takes teamwork, hard work, and dedication both on and off the court to pull off this kind of win," said head coach Sheila Seymore-Pennick. "Words can't explain how happy we are to become the state champions."
