Lawyers spar over Georgia voting machine glitch, planned fix
ATLANTA โ Georgia election officials say theyโre implementing a software change to fix a glitch in the stateโs new voting machines. During pre-election testing on the new touchscreen voting machines last week, election officials in two counties discovered a problem with the display for a high-profile, 21-candidate U.S. Senate race. Lawyers representing election integrity activists told U.S. District Judge Amy Totenberg this problem and others bolster their arguments that the voting machines are not secure and arenโt ready for use. County election officials will then have to install the software on hundreds of voting machines, reprogram the machines and then do preelection testing, the filing says. Election officials in one county told them that, during preelection testing, the tabulation of absentee ballots did not work at all.
Kaiser Permanente CEO Bernard Tyson dies at 60
(CNN) - Bernard Tyson, the CEO of Kaiser Permanente, died in his sleep early Sunday at the age of 60, the company confirmed to CNN Business. In addition to leading one of the nation's largest nonprofit health plans, Tyson was the company's first black CEO and a champion for accessible healthcare, racial justice and workplace diversity. "An outstanding leader, visionary and champion for high-quality, affordable health care for all Americans, Bernard was a tireless advocate for Kaiser Permanente, our members and the communities we serve," the company said in a statement Sunday. Based in Oakland, California, Kaiser Permanente is a not-for-profit hospital and health insurance system serving 12.3 million people in eight states and the District of Columbia. Executive Vice President and Group President Gregory Adams has been named as interim chairman and CEO, the company said Sunday.
15 of America's biggest fast food chains earn Fs for antibiotic use
This is the fifth year that six public interest groups have graded the 25 largest US fast food chains on where they stand on antibiotics. The report, called Chain Reaction V, focuses on antibiotic use in both poultry and beef food items. Despite the severity of the problem, the US lacks appropriate laws to regulate overuse of antibiotics in our food chain. McDonald's is in the pilot phase of their commitment, Brook said, with plans to announce reduction targets by the end of 2020. "They're cutting one drug by 20% in less than a third of their beef supply.
