Eastbound lanes of Mathews Bridge to close Friday night, reopen Monday morning
As part of a rehabilitation project on the Mathews Bridge, an eastbound directional closure of the bridge is planned this weekend, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting, the Florida Department of Transportation said.

Authorities inside the Regional Transportation Management Center were preparing Friday for an influx of traffic in and around the River City, even with no festival following the race. Elite field ready to hit road running for 44th Gate River Run
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The field for Saturdayโs 44th annual Gate River Run is limited to 8,000 runners because of the pandemic. But the U.S. 15K National Championship is expected to draw one of the best fields of elite runners in recent years. Due to the pandemic, Alred said the elite runners will be tested for COVID-19 and will be kept separate from other runners on race day. Changes coming to Gate River Run in 2021 amid continuing pandemic
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ WJXT will, once again, broadcast the Gate River Run in 2021 on Saturday, March 20. Traffic Alert: Major backups on Mathews Bridge after crash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Heavy delays were reported on Monday morning after a crash on the Mathews Bridge in Jacksonville. It could take you longer to get to work as a result. The left lane ends near the middle of the bridge due to a vehicle accident. Avoid the Matthews Bridge and take the Hart Bridge if possible. We are working to learn more information.
Trump 2020 boat parade celebrates Republican National Convention
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A steady stream of boaters lined the St. Johns River on Saturday in a parade to celebrate the Republican National Convention. The boats featured Trump 2020 flags and other banners as they churned up and down the river from the Hart Bridge to the Fuller Warren Bridge and back. The party designated viewing areas along both the Northbank and Southbank, urging spectators to also display American flags and other signage. Both boaters and spectators were encouraged to register their participation on Eventbrite.
Crash closes northbound lanes of Hart Bridge
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office warned drivers that both northbound lanes of the Hart Bridge leading to Downtown Jacksonville were blocked due to a traffic crash Saturday night. River Run start moved to avoid Hart Bridge ramp construction
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ There are be a few changes for the Gate River Run this year, and certainly the most noticeable is a new location for the starting line. Early work on the demolition of the Hart Bridge ramp forced organizers to move the starting line two blocks north -- from Bay Street to Duval Street. Alred said the new starting line will be closer to the finish line than ever before. Also, as a result of relocating the starting line, the 5K race -- which usually starts at the same time as the 15K -- will now start 30 minutes later. Alred said while there is adequate parking, if you have never run the Gate before, be prepared for the size of the crowd.
TRAFFIC UPDATE: Mathews Bridge reopens after suspicious item found
The Mathews Bridge reopened Tuesday afternoon just before 3 p.m. after it had been closed down in both directions while police investigated a suspicious item. The package was found to be "nothing of concern," Jacksonville police said. Traffic into and out of Downtown was briefly rerouted over the Hart Bridge. Van Helten said motivation for the mural, which looks over the North Florida Shipyard, came through a search for subjects and a representation of the real soul of the city in the downtown of Jacksonville.During the Australians trip to Jacksonville, he met Connell, an activist and member of the Deaf Community and Sara, a Palestinian American.
