In western Maine, workers already have staged heavy equipment and timber โmatsโ that will be used to prevent the equipment from damaging the ground. About 275 Maine workers already have been hired, and more would be hired if not for the litigation, officials said. Critics have been trying to stop the project, saying it would destroy wilderness in western Maine.
51 Florida residents to become naturalized citizen during Jaguars game
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jacksonville Jaguars will hold itโs third naturalization ceremony this Sunday during halftime against the Cleveland Browns. The first naturalization ceremony was held in 2017 and has since become a Thanksgiving tradition in the River City. The ceremony is a joint effort with the judges of the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida, Jacksonville Division, the Department of Homeland Security , and U.S. The only difference in the ceremony this year is it will be staged on TIAA Bank Fieldโs Sky Terrace rather than the field. Naturalization is the final step to become a United States citizen.

Off-duty Jacksonville corrections officer accused of leaving scene of crash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A five-year veteran with the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office has resigned from her position following a traffic crash that occurred mid-August, an agency spokesperson said Wednesday. According to Undersheriff Pat Ivey, Jatoia Howard, who was a corrections officer, was involved in a traffic crash where she left the scene and later made false statements about who was driving the vehicle. Ivey said Howard was off-duty at the time of the crash, and he did not believe any injuries were reported. โWe would move to fire this person had they not resigned,โ Ivey said. Howard is the third corrections officer arrested.

Middleburg High employee accused of selling drugs to undercover officer at school
CLAY COUNTY, Fla. โ A custodian at Middleburg High School was arrested and accused of selling a controlled substance to an undercover deputy with the Clay County Sheriffโs Office. Working with the Clay County District Schools Police Department, Kristen Howard was arrested Friday at the school and booked into the Clay County jail. On Wednesday, members of the CCSO Targeted Narcotics Team arranged to buy Suboxone pills from Howard at Middleburg High School. Those News4Jax spoke to said Middleburg High is a good school and the actions of one shouldnโt tarnish the school as a whole. โOne custodian cannot ruin the school, but if it kept on going it could have.โA spokeswoman from the Clay County School District issued a statement about the arrest:

According to the latest report from the state, there are 146 long-term care facilities in Northeast Florida with confirmed coronavirus cases among either residents, staff or both. Ive never felt that my mom hasnt felt good until now, Teresa Botkin said of her mother, 90-year-old Nora Howard. When Kim got there, they said, Well, your mom isnt there,' and shes thinking, Well, OK, where is she? Botkins said. Shes COVID positive.Botkin said she was never made aware that her mom was moved to the Signature Healthcare facility in Jacksonville. Shes been in isolation so the only people shes seen is their staff, Botkin said.

Twin girls found dead in car on hot Georgia day

Tracey Howard said investigators are still trying to figure out how the twin 3-year-old girls ended up in the vehicle. If autopsy results show the children died of heat exposure, the twins could be the 45th and 46th children to die in hot cars this year. Neighbors like Onesha Forrest, who has a daughter about the same age, are still reeling from the news. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting Hinesville police with the investigation.
