This fun science experiment is perfect to do at home
Jacksonville’s Museum of Science and History (MOSH) is the perfect place to take your kids for their last bit of summer fun! Extreme Science Shows occur in the JEA Science Theater at The MOSH on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 12:30 PM and Sundays at 2:30 PM. There are also special Saturday Science Shows at 2:45 PM. At these shows, kids can watch and participate in cool and exciting science experiments.
‘The exhibits will be dynamic’ Plans for MOSH’s new museum ramping up
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The city’s famous Museum of Science and History is ramping up its plans to build and move to a new building at the Jacksonville Shipyards. The original plan was to renovate and expand the current MOSH building on the Southbank, a project that became known as MOSH 2.0. So when you come, you’ll experience something completely different.”Visitors have seen the current exhibits, but Fafard says many of them remain static, and they seldom change. He says the new museum will allow visitors to have a truly hands-on experience. Fafard says another goal is to have multiple maker spaces throughout the new museum, including a cultural side.
Walk down memory lane with MOSH’s Toytopia exhibit
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville is unveiling a new exhibit. Toytopia is MOSH’s first new exhibit since March 2019. Toytopia will replace the Dinosaurs Around the World exhibit. Toytopia satisfies the curiosity of toy lovers with beautiful, compelling, fun, and informative displays, and offers an immersive experience in which to explore the history of toy making. This exhibit focuses on the history of toys so it’s got that big nostalgia factor,” said MOSH Education Manager Alec Warren.
President of Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville resigns
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Theres a new president in charge of the Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville. Maria Hane who was president of MOSH for more than 11 years is stepping down to take care of a sick family member. However, Hanes exit is a bittersweet moment for the MOSH community and especially to those who know her best. President since 2009, it still wasnt an easy decision for Hane to make especially while looking back on some of her most hard-won accomplishments. Interim President Bruce Fafard will take over leadership while the MOSH board searches for a full-time replacement.
MOSH reopening to general public; safety changes in place
The Museum of Science and History is reopening to the general public after being shut down due to closures associated with COVID-19. Warren says families can get an up-close and personal look through the "Dinosaurs around the world" exhibit. Aside from new dinosaurs, Warren says families will also notice new safety protocols. MOSH'S website says these changes and protocols are in line with guidelines and requirements set by the government and public health agencies. If guests dont have masks with them, Warren says they can be purchased at MOSH for $1 each.
MOSH offers online programs, activities for kids
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Museum of Science and History in downtown Jacksonville announced the launch of a new initiative MOSH Connect, the museum’s first ever digital endeavor. MOSH Connect offers videos, step-by-step science and history lessons designed to be completed at home, and live interactive sessions with MOSH Educators. Start saving the cardboard centers of paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls for supplies for this activity. This activity is sure to be a hit with your kids- building a popsicle catapult!
