ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 25-year-old St. Augustine man was left in critical condition after a two-car crash in St. Johns County early Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said Charles Davis Jr. was driving east on State Road 16 in the right lane approaching the intersection of Factory Outlet Drive just before 2 p.m. when a tractor-trailer was making a U-turn from westbound State Road 16 at the intersection in the paved median.

Troopers said the big rig turned into the path of Davis' car, which struck the rear of the trailer.

The driver of the semi, 39-year-old Britt Wortman, of Cassellberry, continued driving for a short distance before realizing that a crash occurred, troopers said. They said he then pulled over onto the grass shoulder with Davis' car in tow.

Davis was taken to Orange Park Medical Center.

Wortman and another passenger were not hurt.

Troopers said charges are pending.
