Woman, 54, killed in Alachua County crash
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A 54-year-old Newberry woman died in a crash Friday morning on Archer Road, just outside of Gainesville.
Phyllis Pumphrey was taken to Shands Medical Center in Gainesville after the crash about 6:45 a.m. and was pronounced dead.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a car driven by 24-year-old Whitney Green, of Bronson, was heading west on Archer Road, just east of Southwest 122nd Street, when Green's car traveled to the left of the center line, striking Pumphrey's car head-on on the driver's side front.
Green's car spun and struck a third car's front with its passenger's side front door, then came to a stop on the grassy right of way, troopers said.
They said Pumphrey's car also spun onto the grassy right of way.
Green was taken to North Florida Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
Troopers said charges are pending.
