Police identify man killed in motorcycle crash

Identified as Eric Michael McManus, 32

A motorcycle rider killed in a crash on Wednesday in Gainesville has been identified as Eric Michael McManus, 32, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

McManus struck a car that turned left in his path. He was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene. The person in the car was not injured.

Police said his speed was likely a factor in the crash.

The initial call about the motorcycle crash went out at 5:17 p.m. Seven minutes later, firefighters got a called of another accident: a Gainesville police officer responding to the first crash got into a crash on North Main Street.

Police said the officer was responding with lights and sirens when something or someone got into his path. The officer took evasive action, but struck a light pole.

The officer was transported to UF Health in Gainesville with minor injuries.
