FHP: Distracted driver side-swipes school bus

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A 50-year-old Middleburg man driving an SUV side-swiped a school bus filled with high school students Monday afternoon in Clay County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP report said Michael Wood was driving south in the left lane of College Drive when he looked down to answer his phone. When Wood looked up, the traffic was stopped in front of him, and he veered into the right lane, nicking the left side of a school bus holding 14 Ridgeview High School students.

The collision caused minor damage to the bus, FHP said.

No one was injured.
