1 killed, 1 injured in crash on I-95 ramp at Myrtle Avenue

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One person was killed and one person was injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash on southbound Interstate 95 near the Myrtle Avenue Exit downtown, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers identified the victim as Francis Dominick Davis, 45, of Jacksonville.

The two-vehicle wreck was reported just after 2:30 p.m., shutting down the southbound I-95 ramp to westbound Interstate 10 for over two hours.

According to FHP, Davis was driving a Hyundai Tiburon and tried to pass a Kia Soul traveling in front of him. As he tried to change lanes to pass the Kia, the two cars collided. The Kia then veered and collided with the inside guardrail and the Hyundai overturned on its rooftop and collided with the guardrail.

Troopers said Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second car was taken to St. Vincent's Riverside with minor injuries, troopers said.
