According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an unknown vehicle changed from the right lane to the left lane, cutting in front of the semi. The driver of the semi swerved to the left to avoid colliding with the unknown vehicle, but lost control, troopers said.

The semi driver attempted to regain control but steering to the right, but collided with the rear of a Chevrolet Express van and that's when the semi overturned on its side and slid into the center median, losing its load, the incident report said.

The driver was pulled from the semi was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with serious injuries, FHP said.

Troopers said the driver of the van was uninjured.

The crash blocked all northbound lanes of I-295 for more than an hour, and an additional hour was required to remove the overturned big rig, according to FHP.
