According to the FHP report, Peoples was headed south on I-295 just south of San Jose Boulevard just after 3 a.m. when an unknown vehicle abruptly changed lanes near him, causing him to move left to avoid a collision.

Peoples lost control, traveled back to the right and hit a concrete barrier on the right shoulder, troopers said. The crash caused Peoples' Lexus to roll at least three times, until it landed in the outside lane of I-295.

Oliva's GMC Envoy hit Peoples' Lexus and then traveled left, ending up in the inside lane of I-295.

A 30-year-old woman driving a Hyundai swerved left to avoid the Lexus after it landed in her path and lost control of her vehicle, hitting the concrete barrier on the right shoulder of the road. She suffered minor injuries.

Garcia's Lincoln was traveling southbound in the inside lane of I-295 and hit the passenger side of Oliva's Envoy after it stopped in the roadway.

There was no evidence of alcohol being a factor in the crash, the FHP report said. All four drivers involved were wearing seat belts, troopers said.
