Officer injured, driver arrested in crash

JSO: Driver charged with DUI


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville police officer is in the hospital after his vehicle was struck by a driver under the influence, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said the unnamed officer was on his way home early Sunday morning when he stopped for a traffic light at the intersection of Baymeadows Road and Baymeadows Way.

They said the other driver hit the officer's car at a high speed, causing it to move into the middle of the intersection. Extensive damage to the officer's vehicle was also reported.

The officer was taken to the hospital, complaining of neck and back pain.

The other driver was arrested on several DUI related charges.

Police have not released the name of the officer or his condition. We will update this article as more information becomes available.
