Officer suffers only cut to hand in single-car crash, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville police officer was involved in a crash Thursday afternoon on Atlantic Boulevard as he was headed to help another officer, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Police said the officer was responding to assist another officer who was holding four suspects at gunpoint in a stolen vehicle, when he hit a tree on the driver's side on Atlantic Boulevard several blocks west of University Boulevard. The cruiser had its lights and sirens on when it crashed, police said.

The officer suffered a cut to his hand was taken to Memorial Hospital as a precaution, police said.

No other cars were involved in the crash.

One lane of Atlantic Boulevard eastbound was blocked but later reopened.
