4-year-old boy dies in Green Cove Springs crash

Troopers identify victim as Jason Gallion of Middleburg

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – A 4-year-old boy was killed Friday afternoon when a hatchback vehicle and a pickup truck crashed at an intersection just west of Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Jason Gallion, 4, of Middleburg was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that blocked State Road 16 at County Road 315A for several hours, troopers said.

The boy was riding in a Pontiac Vibe traveling east on SR-16 about 3:15 p.m. when the driver lost control, crossing into the path of oncoming traffic and hitting a Ford Ranger, investigators said.

The driver of the Pontiac, 29-year-old Jennifer King, and the driver of the Ford, 69-year-old Carlton Silcox, were both taken to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries, the incident report said.

Neighbors told News4Jax that they were very shaken up by the horrible crash. One man said he heard the impact from inside his house and immediately called 911 because he knew people had to be hurt.

Charges are pending investigation, according to FHP.
