Police ID motorcyclist killed in crash with big rig

JSO: Jasen Halliday, 39, of Daytona Beach, pronounced dead on scene

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A motorcyclist died Monday morning when he ran into the back of a tractor-trailer stopped at the intersection of West 12th Street near North Lane Avenue, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Police identified the motorcyclist as Jasen Halliday, 39, of Daytona Beach.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded to the crash about 7:15 a.m., but found the rider of the Honda motorcycle dead, police said.

Police said the motorcycle ran into the back of a Peterbilt tandem-trailer hauler that was the third in line stopped for a stop sign at the intersection. It was not known if speed or any other factors contributed to the crash. The rider was not wearing a helmet.

The crash scene was cleared and West 12th Street reopened about 10 a.m.
