Police: Man critically injured in Westside crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 41-year-old man was critically injured Wednesday afternoon in a crash at Collins Road and Plantation Bay Drive on Jacksonville's Westside, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was driving a Honda Civic south on Plantation Bay Drive about noon and left a stop sign at the intersection with Collins, pulling into the path of a Honda SUV, police said.

The SUV hit the driver's door of the Civic.

The 39-year-old driver of the SUV and his passengers, ages 4 and 2, were not injured, police said.

The driver of the Civic was taken to Orange Park Medical Center and was in surgery for life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of the Civic is considered at-fault in the crash and will be cited for failure to yield when leaving a stop sign.
