2 serious injuries in 2 separate crashes

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Several people were injured Wednesday morning in two separate crashes in St. Johns County and Duval County.

The first crash about 6:30 a.m. involved a car and a tractor-trailer on San Jose Boulevard at Oak Bluff Lane. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue reported there was at least one serious injury in the crash and that person had to be extricated from the vehicle.

All southbound lanes of San Jose were closed for part of the morning, but reopened by 8:30 a.m.

The second crash was reported at 7 a.m. on Racetrack Road near U.S. 1.

Two people were critically injured and three others suffered minor injuries when a Hyundai Sonata pulled out in front of a Ford F-150, officials said.

The crash happened when the driver of the Sonata pulled out in front of the truck and clipped the front driver’s side, causing both vehicles to spin out, officials said.

The driver of the Sonata, 34-year-old Jessica Yi, was flown to UF Health Jacksonville in critical condition. The 11-year-old passenger of the Sonata was taken via ambulance to Baptist South Medical Center South.

Troopers originally reported the passenger was in critical condition, but later said the girl suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the truck and three of the four passengers suffered minor injuries, officials said. The passenger riding in the back of the truck was taken to Baptist Medical Center South, officials said.

This crash blocked all westbound lanes of Racetrack Road.
