YULEE, Fla. – A Nassau County deputy's patrol SUV was involved in a rollover crash Tuesday night when it was hit by a driver who failed to yield to the passing SUV, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver, 20-year-old Shatovia Smith, was in front of the K-9 SUV on William Burgess Boulevard, and did not yield, even though the SUV had its lights and sirens activated.
Deputy James Ennis, 46, tried to go around Smith's Chevrolet Cruze, passing on the left, but Smith turned left as the SUV was going by, hitting the right rear of the SUV.
The impact sent the SUV off the road, where it hit a street sign and fire hydrant before flipping onto its roof.
Smith was not injured. Ennis suffered minor injuries.
