JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Five intersections along Baymeadows Road will be getting turn lanes as part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s Baymeadows Road safety and intersection improvement project.
The project is scheduled to start next week, weather permitting.
The project includes the installation of five turn lanes from Prominence Parkway to Southside Boulevard. The addition of right and left turn lanes, and the closure of a median located 400 feet west of Southside Boulevard, will help to improve traffic flow and increase capacity along the roadway, transportation officials said.
A left turn lane will be added on westbound Baymeadows Road turning south onto Prominence Parkway; a left turn lane will be installed on northbound Western Way turning west onto Baymeadows Road; right and left turn lanes will be added at the intersection of Old Baymeadows Road and Baymeadows Road and a left turn lane will be added on westbound Baymeadows Road turning south onto Southside Boulevard. In addition, the I-95 southbound ramp to Baymeadows Road will be realigned.
Pedestrian safety improvements include the construction of a new sidewalk on the south side of Baymeadows Road from Western Way to Southside Boulevard and the addition of countdown pedestrian timers at crosswalks.
Construction will occur weekdays and weekends. No lane closures are allowed from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday on Southside Boulevard, Western Way and the I-95 southbound ramp, and no lane closures are allowed from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday on Baymeadows Road and Old Baymeadows Road.
The $6.6 million project is scheduled for completion in early 2018. J.B. Coxwell Inc. of Jacksonville is the contractor.
